Why Showing Up Still Matters, What I Learned at the Inclusive Sourcing Summit, And How We’re Doing Things Differently

Welcome

Who would have thought that in 2025 I’d be sat writing and posting letters?

With so much noise online, emails, newsletters (like this one!), LinkedIn posts, webinars, sometimes the best way to stand out is to go back to basics. I’ve recently started a new campaign to promote our upcoming The SAFE Leader training courses by post. Yes, real envelopes. Real stamps. Real ink.

Inspired by the book How to Make a Billion in 9 Steps, I’ve been handpicking engineering organisations in cities we’re visiting this autumn and writing to them directly. It’s definitely a slower process, and my hand is starting to ache, but I believe there’s value in showing up differently. A handwritten letter feels personal in a world of automation, and we’re already starting to see responses come in.

So if you get a letter from me soon, now you know why!

Inclusive Sourcing Summit Highlights

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the UK Inclusive Sourcing Summit. It was an energising two days of connection and possibility, hosted by MSDUK, OutBritain, Social Enterprise UK, Veteran Owned UK and WEConnect International.

From one-on-one matchmaking with procurement leads to deep dives into the UK Procurement Act, the event was packed with real conversations about how to reshape supply chains for greater equity and impact. I reconnected with familiar faces, discovered some fantastic new organisations, and left with a list of ideas for collaborations I hope to bring to life in the months ahead.

It’s a powerful reminder: inclusive supply chains aren’t a nice-to-have, they’re a business imperative.

Safety & Inclusion in the Nuclear Industry

This week’s episode of The SAFE Leader Podcast features Callum Thomas, founder and CEO of Thomas Thor, a global force in building diverse talent pipelines for the nuclear sector.

Callum opens up about his early fascination with business, the evolution of nuclear energy in the fight against climate change, and why psychological safety needs to be as prioritised as physical safety. It’s a rich and reflective conversation, exploring everything from privilege and leadership to long-term purpose.

If you're passionate about energy, inclusion, or how values shape strategy, this episode is a must-listen.

Nothing Beats Being There

After a year in New York, I returned to the UK expecting to pick up where I left off. But what I didn’t expect was how powerful it would be to just show up. In-person.

Within weeks, I’d reconnected with clients over coffee, run workshops where real-time breakthroughs happened, and even received a note from a former contact who saw a post I’d shared and reached out to explore collaboration.

This week’s article is about rediscovering the value of presence, the trust it builds, the energy it gives, and the serendipitous moments it unlocks. Especially in leadership, being physically present still matters.
