Celebrating Visibility, Connection And The Engineering Stories Around Us
Welcome
As Pride Month comes to a close, I’ve found myself thinking back to our time living in New York City, and the energy, colour and visibility that Pride brought to the skyline and the streets.

This is a photo of the NYC skyline at night, lit up with Pride flags, which captures something I always find powerful about this time of year: the reminder that visibility matters. Whether in a city, a workplace, an industry or a professional community, people need to see that they belong.

This weekend, InterEngineering, our LGBTQ+ network at EqualEngineers, will be celebrating Pride in London with a pre-parade brunch before joining the wider celebrations. It feels like a fitting way to close the month, with community, connection and a reminder of why this work still matters.

EngineeringLondon Is Live
Yesterday we officially went live with EngineeringLondon, a new video series I’ve been working on over the past month.
The idea behind the series is simple: to explore the engineering stories hidden in plain sight across the city. London is full of extraordinary structures, systems and landmarks that millions of people pass every day, often without knowing the technical stories behind them.
Our first episode focuses on St Paul’s Cathedral, one of London’s most iconic landmarks, and a brilliant place to begin a series about engineering, design, history and resilience.
I’m really excited to finally share this project. We’ve already watched the first episode back as a team, and it’s been fantastic to see the idea come to life.
Do you know which landmark will be next?
OutConnect 2026

On Monday, I attended OutConnect 2026 in London, hosted by OutBritain and sponsored by Sky.
It was encouraging to spend the day in conversations that framed inclusion not just as a value, but as a driver of business performance, innovation and social impact.
Across the event, there were discussions on Pride 365, employee resource groups, supplier diversity, inclusive procurement, social impact and growth opportunities for small businesses. The mix of perspectives across sectors was particularly valuable.

One theme came through clearly: belonging does not happen by accident.
It takes leadership, intentional action and a willingness to build environments where people can contribute as their authentic selves. That message resonates strongly with the work we do across engineering, even though many of the examples shared came from different sectors.
The conversations around inclusion have matured significantly over the last decade. The challenge now is turning commitment into sustained impact.
A big thank you to OutBritain, Sky and everyone who shared their insights throughout the day.
This Week on The SAFE Leader Podcast
This week I’m joined by Rachael Haynes, workplace wellbeing strategist, culture change leader and founder of Big Picture Lab.
Rachael has spent more than 25 years helping organisations create healthier, more effective and more human workplaces. Our conversation explores why wellbeing is not simply about initiatives, policies or benefits, but about the everyday conditions that shape how people experience work.
We discuss psychosocial risk, workplace culture, trust, leadership behaviours and why organisational health should be treated as a strategic business issue rather than a standalone wellbeing programme. Rachael also shares a powerful reflection on belonging and leadership, including how her own gender transition reshaped her understanding of what it means to create environments where people feel genuinely safe, valued and able to contribute.

I love helping organisations where the angle I take with the work I do might help in someway have you make traction in your culture.
