Recognising Talent and Strengthening Partnerships

Welcome

Hello everyone!

You may have noticed it's been almost a month since my last newsletter. It's certainly not because things have been quiet! The past few weeks have been packed with client work, training delivery, partnership activity and other engagements, which has meant the newsletter has taken a short pause.

The good news is, we're back!

Behind the scenes I've also been recording a fantastic line-up of new episodes for The SAFE Leader Podcast. We've got some incredibly interesting guests coming your way over the next few months, including leaders from engineering, safety, technology and beyond.

The first of those new episodes starts today!

Engineering Talent Awards 2026 Shortlist Revealed

This Monday marked an exciting milestone as we officially unveiled the shortlists for all 14 categories of the Engineering Talent Awards 2026!

Firstly, congratulations to everyone who has been shortlisted. Every year I'm inspired by the calibre of nominations we receive, and this year's entries were among the strongest we've ever seen. The judging panel had an incredibly difficult task selecting the finalists.

Now in its seventh year, the Engineering Talent Awards continues to celebrate the individuals, teams and organisations driving inclusion, innovation and excellence across engineering and technology. This year's shortlist showcases talent from across industry, academia and education, with organisations ranging from major employers to innovative SMEs and outstanding universities all represented.

The winners will be announced at our gala ceremony on Friday 9 October at the Leonardo Royal Hotel London City, and I can't wait to celebrate with all of our finalists.

Tickets are now on sale

Tickets for the awards ceremony are now available, with early bird pricing currently in place.

If you're planning to join us in October, I'd encourage you to book early to take advantage of the discounted rates before prices increase.

Engineering London Launches Next Week!

Next week marks the launch of a project I've been looking forward to sharing for a long time: Engineering London.

Over the past few months, I've been filming across the capital, uncovering the engineering stories behind some of London's most recognisable landmarks. Each episode explores not only how these structures were designed and built, but also the fascinating facts and innovations that often go unnoticed.

This is just the start. The vision is to create similar series in other cities, shining a spotlight on engineering wherever it shapes our communities. Keep an eye out for my socials to watch the first episode!

EqualEngineers & Institute of Physics Partnership

This week we were delighted to announce another exciting Professional Engineering Institution partnership, this time with the Institute of Physics (IOP).

The partnership is built around a shared ambition to strengthen inclusive and psychologically safe cultures across engineering, science and technology, recognising that innovation flourishes when everyone feels they belong and can contribute with confidence.

Together we'll be collaborating on a range of initiatives spanning education, early careers, leadership development and professional practice, helping to create more opportunities for under-represented groups while sharing good practice across both professions.

As part of the partnership, we'll also be delivering a series of joint events, beginning with our first webinar:

Engineering, Safety and Physics

5 August 2026

This session will explore the important relationship between engineering, physics and safety, creating space for discussion around leadership, culture and how we build workplaces where people can thrive.

We're really excited about what this partnership will achieve and look forward to sharing more over the coming months.

This Week on The SAFE Leader Podcast

This week I'm joined by Michael Toguchi, Chief Strategy Officer at Tectonic, for a fascinating conversation exploring why successful digital transformation is ultimately about people, not technology.

Drawing on more than 25 years of experience helping mission-driven organisations navigate change, Mike explains why trust, governance and culture are often the deciding factors in whether transformation succeeds or fails. We discuss how AI and digital tools should reduce complexity rather than create it, and why leaders need to stay focused on the people their systems are designed to support.
