Creating Spaces Where Everyone Can Thrive.

Welcome

By the time you read this, I’ll hopefully be sitting on a plane heading to Greece for a family holiday, with a book I’ve been looking forward to reading for a very long time.

The author is my good friend Erin Weed, whose work has had a profound impact on my own journey. Nearly five years ago, I took part in Erin’s Dig process, where she helps people identify the single word that sits at the centre of who they are, the golden thread that connects their values, purpose, decisions and impact.

My word was Justice.

Looking back, that experience was genuinely transformative. It helped me understand why I cared so deeply about fairness, belonging and creating opportunities for others. It gave me clarity and confidence to pursue public speaking, write The SAFE Leader, step onto the TEDx stage and continue building EqualEngineers.

What I love most is that Erin has now made this process accessible to anyone through her new book. If you're looking for a thought-provoking read that might help you better understand your own purpose, I highly recommend it.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day

Yesterday marked Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), an important reminder that accessibility is a foundation for inclusion, participation and belonging.

As part of our growing partnership with the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3), we recently hosted a webinar on Accessibility in Engineering with Animesh Anand, Chair of IOM3's Ably Different in Materials, Minerals & Mining (ADM3) group.

The discussion explored how we can remove barriers, support disabled engineers and create environments where more people can fully contribute and thrive. The engagement from attendees was excellent, with thoughtful discussion around inclusive leadership, accessible learning and designing systems that work for everyone.

Accessibility is something we continue to take seriously across all of our activities. That's why we have implemented accessibility tools such as Recite Me across our websites, helping users access information in ways that work best for them.

As engineers, we're trained to solve problems. Accessibility challenges us to think more broadly about who we're solving problems for and who might unintentionally be excluded if we don't.

#EngineeringLondon — Coming Soon!

Over the last few weeks I've been working on a new video project that I'm incredibly excited about.

Engineering London launches on 2 June!!

The series takes viewers behind some of London's most iconic landmarks, exploring the engineering stories, technical achievements and fascinating facts hidden in plain sight across the city.

We've now reviewed the first episode and I'm genuinely excited about how it's coming together. The challenge has now moved from filming to editing, turning hours of footage into something engaging, educational and hopefully inspiring.

What excites me most is that this isn't just about London.

The ambition is to create a series of city-based engineering stories under the banner:

#EngineeringLondon
#EngineeringManchester
#EngineeringGlasgow
#EngineeringNewYork

Perhaps one day we'll even be visiting your city!

Interested in Being a Podcast Guest?

I'm currently opening recording slots for future episodes of The SAFE Leader Podcast.

If you have a story to share around leadership, safety, engineering, culture, innovation, inclusion or personal growth, or if you know someone who would make a fantastic guest, I'd love to hear from you.

This Week on The SAFE Leader Podcast

This week I wanted to revisit a great conversation with Andy Webster, Digital Director at KBR and Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.

Andy shares his career journey through the energy sector, including his work developing a successful safety strategy at Shell and his transition into leadership and coaching.

One of the themes that resonated most strongly with me was the importance of storytelling and emotional connection in leadership. Technical expertise matters, but the ability to inspire, connect and bring people with you is often what separates good leaders from great ones.

We also discuss curiosity, strengths-based development, personal growth and why staying open-minded can create opportunities you never expected.

Let’s Connect!

Please reach out and connect with me on LinkedIn if we are not already connected.

I love helping organisations where the angle I take with the work I do might help in someway have you make traction in your culture.

Feel free to get in touch here.
