New Opportunities, Fresh Momentum, And What’s Ahead.
Welcome
Back from the Easter holidays and straight back into the rhythm.
It’s been a productive few days getting things moving again, including recording a number of new podcast episodes for the coming weeks. We’ve got a really interesting and varied line-up of guests this month, including a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, which I’m particularly excited to share with you soon.
I’m also preparing for a busy week ahead, with the EqualEngineers Student Summit just around the corner.
EqualEngineers Student Summit 2026

Next week we’ll be hosting the EqualEngineers Student Summit 2026 in collaboration with the UCL Centre for Engineering Education.
This two-day, residential event in Birmingham will bring together 30 students and recent graduates from across the UK, all exploring themes around safety, ethics, AI and the transition into engineering practice.
We already have a fantastic group confirmed, representing a range of disciplines, backgrounds and experiences. It promises to be a really valuable opportunity to bring people together, create space for honest conversations, and start shaping what the future of engineering education and early careers could look like.
I’m really looking forward to it and will be sharing more reflections after the event next week.
Engineering Talent Awards

A quick but important reminder that the Engineering Talent Awards nominations deadline has been extended.
📅 New deadline: 24 April (midnight)
If you’ve already started an application, this is your moment to bring it over the line.
And if you haven’t yet submitted, there’s still time to recognise an individual, team or organisation that is making a real difference in engineering and technology, whether that’s through leadership, inclusion, innovation or impact.
Every year, the awards surface incredible stories from across the sector, many of which would otherwise go unseen. That’s what makes them so powerful.
This Week on The SAFE Leader Podcast
This week I sat down with Jay Jacobson for a thoughtful and wide-ranging conversation about leadership, presence and the power of small human moments.
Jay’s journey, from early experiences delivering newspapers to building service-led businesses, has shaped a grounded and practical view of leadership, centred on responsibility, trust and genuinely serving others.
In this episode, we explore how leadership often shows up in unexpected places: in customer service, in simple acts of appreciation, and in the way we create meaningful connections with the people around us. From stories behind his book Lead by Legendary Example to reflections on purpose and consistency, Jay brings a refreshing perspective on what leadership really looks like in practice.
