Planning For 2026, Disability Inclusion And New Voices In Engineering
Welcome
This week, the EqualEngineers core team met in person in London to kick off 2026 with purpose. It’s always energising to get off Zoom and into a room together, and we had some great strategy discussions around this year’s Engineering Talent Awards (ETAs) and exciting new opportunities on the horizon.
Planning is in full swing, and we can’t wait to open nominations for ETAs very soon. Stay tuned!

Disability Network Event in Manchester

We’re excited to host our first in-person event of 2026, led by the EqualEngineers Disability Network. This event explores the question: Are you thriving or surviving in the workplace?
Our brilliant Co-Chairs, Simon Houghton, Sue Richards and Charlotte Wessels, will share personal stories about their disabilities. We’re also thrilled to welcome Katy Deacon, Founder of Towards Belonging and Visiting Professor in Inclusive Engineering Design. Katy’s talk will offer deep insight into accessibility in engineering through the lens of lived experience.
The day ends with an interactive workshop to surface practical tools for disabled colleagues and allies.
🎟 Spaces are limited to 30 participants. Secure your spot with a refundable £1 deposit.
📍 Rolls-Royce SMR HQ, 11 York Street, Manchester

Engineering Talent Podcast with Fayon Dixon

We’re proud to have launched our brand-new show: The Engineering Talent Podcast, hosted by Fayon Dixon!
This podcast shines a light on changemakers across engineering and tech, from award winners to emerging talent, sharing the real stories behind inclusion, innovation, and impact.
The second episode just dropped this week, and feedback so far has been incredibly positive. Don’t miss this new addition to the EqualEngineers ecosystem.
This Week on The SAFE Leader Podcast
In this week’s episode of The SAFE Leader, I sat down with architect, entrepreneur, and creative force Lance Cayko for a wide-ranging chat on curiosity, resilience, and leadership.
Lance shares how his “Renaissance mindset” helps him build, iterate, and stay addicted to the process of creating, even when life throws curveballs. We explore the power of polarity (holding positive and negative in balance), why safe spaces foster innovation, and how approachable leadership earns trust more than authority ever could.
If you’ve ever needed a reminder that setbacks can still shape success, this one’s for you.
