Championing Safety Leadership from Hazards35 to Global Panels

Welcome

This week I’ve been at the People Sustainability: Global Summit 2025, an invitation-only event, focused on placing human capital at the heart of sustainability. The event brought together global voices on how we measure, value, and prioritise the health, safety, and wellbeing of workers.

Today, I’m speaking on a panel titled “The Impact and Measurement of Wellbeing”, chaired by Mark Rix, and joined by experts from Sainsbury’s, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1, and others. Together, we’re exploring how wellbeing must be a strategic priority linked to resilience, innovation, and performance. I’ll be drawing on my work through EqualEngineers and The SAFE Leader to highlight how engineering a psychologically safe culture is not only good for people, it’s good for business.

Highlights from Hazards 35

Fayon Dixon and I at our stand

Last week I attended the Hazards 35 Conference in Birmingham, organised by the IChemE. I was there with our Engagement Manager, Fayon Dixon, representing EqualEngineers and spotlighting The SAFE Leader framework.

We brought 200 copies of the book with us, and every single one was picked up! It was great to engage with attendees who were genuinely interested in embedding psychological safety into their process safety culture.

We also proudly sponsored the Poster Competition, congratulations to Michael Godfrey FIChemE on taking the top prize! It’s encouraging to see the next generation of engineers stepping forward with bold new ideas for safer, more sustainable systems.

Is Your Organisation SAFE?

Following the success of our recent workshop, where dozens of professionals joined to explore psychological safety and inclusive leadership, I’m excited to announce a new date for our next session: Wednesday 11th December at 12pm GMT.

This is your chance to experience The SAFE Leader framework firsthand in a live, interactive environment. You’ll also get early access to our new SAFE Assessment Tool, helping you benchmark how psychologically safe your workplace truly is.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • The four pillars of SAFE: Share, Act, Feel, Empower

  • How to assess how “SAFE” your organisation truly is

  • Practical strategies for fostering trust and wellbeing

  • Tips for building a culture of psychological safety

  • Storytelling techniques to inspire others

This Week on The SAFE Leader Podcast

In this episode, I sit down with leadership expert and bestselling author Jim Carlough to unpack what truly defines effective leadership. With over 30 years transforming teams and organisations, Jim shares deeply personal stories about integrity, humility, and learning through failure.

We explore the six pillars behind his leadership philosophy and what it takes to grow into a leader that people trust. Whether you're leading a team or finding your voice as a new manager, this conversation offers a grounded, honest, and powerful reflection on how leadership is built, not born.
