Celebrating Black History Month Through Our Networks And Spotlighting Courageous STEM Leadership
Welcome
As you read this, I’m en route to Helsinki, Finland, where I’ll be delivering my TEDx Talk tomorrow! The title? “SAFE to Speak: Why Men’s Stories Matter To The Future Of Equality.”
It’s a message I’ve been building toward for years, and I can’t wait to share it on the global stage. I’ll give you a full behind-the-scenes look in next week’s edition with photos, key takeaways, and reflections.
Meanwhile, EqualEngineers just surpassed 8,000 followers on LinkedIn! That’s a big milestone for us, and I’m grateful for every one of you helping us grow this community. If you’re not following yet, please do!

Celebrating Black History Month

As part of our ongoing commitment to creating inclusive spaces across engineering, EqualEngineers is proud to host a webinar to mark Black History Month 2025. This event, co-led by our InterEngineering and REACH networks, will explore the intersections of cultural identity, heritage, and professional leadership in STEM.
Building on the success of last year’s event, this year’s conversation will go deeper, examining how pride in one’s roots, lived experiences, and community stories can shape stronger and more resilient workplaces.
Expect an open, honest discussion with real insights, personal reflections, and ideas to take back to your own organisation.
Being Visible in STEM
This week on The SAFE Leader Podcast, I’m joined by Alex Knight, founder and CEO of STEMAZING, an award-winning social enterprise that inspires young people through visible role models in STEM.
Alex opens up about her journey from being a “shy ginger kid” to becoming a national role model for women in engineering. We talk about:
Finding courage before confidence
Why visibility matters more than perfection
The power of showing up for others, especially the next generation
It’s a heartfelt and powerful conversation about leadership, impact, and making space for others to shine.
