Bridging Gaps, Building Trust & Taking the Lead
Welcome
It’s a busy stretch ahead! Next week, we kick off The SAFE Leader Training series in Glasgow, where I’ll be joined by my colleague Poggy. The following week I’ll be delivering an in-house course to a civil engineering firm. After that, I’m heading to Finland to give a TEDx talk in Viikki… then straight across the Atlantic for another event. It's all go.
But amidst the movement, there’s a strong throughline: momentum. I’m grateful to be working with brilliant people on meaningful projects, and I’m seeing the appetite for human-centred leadership grow stronger by the day.

Wellbeing at Work Summit London

Earlier this week, I spoke on a leadership panel at the Wellbeing at Work UK Summit in London, a brilliant event focused on making employee wellbeing a strategic imperative. Their mission really resonates:
Connecting. Informing. Supporting the community.
Our panel, “People Centricity: Wellbeing, Sustainability and ESG”, was chaired by Malcolm Staves (L’Oréal), and I was joined by Kathy Seabrook, Crystal Danbury, Ruairi Connor, Kelly Nicoll, a truly thoughtful group. We explored how organisations can embed wellbeing into business strategy, and why it’s not just about benefits or tick boxes, but about belonging, safety, leadership, and trust. Thank you again to Malcolm for hosting such a rich discussion.
Safety & Inclusion in the Nuclear Industry
This week on The SAFE Leader Podcast, I’m joined by Natalie Desty, founder of STEM Returners, a programme that’s helped hundreds of professionals re-enter engineering and tech after career breaks. Natalie shares her bold decision to leave a director-level role and launch a platform many thought was too risky… and how she turned it into a movement.
We talk about:
– Barriers that keep diverse talent out of STEM
– Why inclusion must be baked into hiring strategies
– The power of returner programmes to change lives
This is an inspiring and important listen, especially for anyone shaping the future of engineering talent.
Closing the Gap Between Office & Frontline Workers
This week, I wrote about a divide we don’t often talk about, the one between those in corporate offices and those on the frontlines of engineering: in workshops, on rigs, in remote vans, at 3 a.m. when something goes wrong.
Despite being the backbone of many organisations, shift workers often feel left out of engagement initiatives, leadership messaging, and inclusion efforts.
The article explores:
Why this cultural gap exists
How it shows up in safety, wellbeing, and trust
5 practical ways to bridge the divide, from flexing timing to making inclusion visible
When we start meeting people where they are, we unlock trust, participation, and insight. And that’s how we build safer, stronger workplaces.

I love helping organisations where the angle I take with the work I do might help in someway have you make traction in your culture.
