Building The Future Of EqualEngineers, Future-Fit Safety and Inspiring Innovation With Abi Hird
Welcome
We’re deep in the second half of 2025, and I’ve been reflecting on what’s ahead for EqualEngineers. This year has been about laying solid foundations: we’ve introduced a new membership model, secured CPD accreditation for The SAFE Leader training course, and been appointed to the UK Government’s MCF4 framework.
It’s all part of positioning EqualEngineers for long-term, meaningful impact. We’ve streamlined our services to focus on what we do best: training, consultancy, and shifting safety culture through inclusion. I’m excited about what’s to come in 2026 and beyond, and I hope you’ll be part of that journey with us.

See You in Manchester!

The Engineering Talent Awards are fast approaching! Taking place on Friday 3rd October in Manchester, this evening will be a celebration of excellence, inclusion, and achievement across engineering. The shortlists are already out, and we’re proud to honour the individuals and organisations making real impact.
Tickets are now on sale, and I’d love to see some of you there in person. It promises to be a fantastic night.
Redefining Innovation with Abi Hird
This week’s episode is a powerful reminder that innovation isn’t just about tech. I’m joined by Abi Hird, who shares her journey from aspiring art teacher to a leader in engineering innovation. Abi opens up about navigating academia and industry, taking risks, and leaning into curiosity to build a career that makes an impact.
We explore what innovation really means, how culture, communication, and strategy often matter more than products or tools. Abi’s perspective is refreshing, honest, and full of lessons for anyone building something new or trying to lead meaningful change.
What Future-Fit Safety Leadership Really Looks Like

This week’s article is based on a panel I attended at Safety on the Edge in California. Featuring voices like Michael Rubin, Larry Sloan, John Dony and Jennifer McNelly, the session challenged us all to rethink what safety leadership must become.
It’s not about ticking boxes or having the most frameworks. It’s about courage over compliance. Influence over isolation. And a willingness to unlearn, listen and act with humility. One of the key takeaways? Every programme, mental health, HOP, wellbeing, is part of one integrated system. Fragmentation holds us back. Integration moves us forward.
If you’re serious about evolving your approach to safety, this one’s worth a read.
