Last Call for ETA Nominations, Inclusive Fire Safety with Benjamin Ralph, and Connecting with US Founder Societies
Welcome!
Since moving to New York, I’ve found myself living in what some might call a liminal space, a threshold between what was and what’s to come. It’s a space that sits between two states: between clarity and uncertainty, between comfort and growth. And while it can feel like limbo, it’s also a powerful place to be.
Liminal spaces give us the freedom to reflect, reimagine, and redefine. They’re uncomfortable at times, but they’re also where transformation begins. For me, this move has been about learning, listening, and creating space for what’s next.
As you read this week’s newsletter, I invite you to consider: Where might you be in a liminal space of your own? And how might you use it to find clarity, not despite the uncertainty, but because of it?
Have a great end of the week!
24 Hours to Go!

The countdown is officially on. If you’ve been thinking about submitting a nomination for the Engineering Talent Awards 2025, now is the time to act. You have just 24 hours left to shine a spotlight on the students, leaders, teams, societies, and organisations that are making a difference in engineering and technology.
These awards aren’t just about recognition, they’re about amplifying stories of inclusion, innovation, and impact. Whether it’s a brilliant early-career engineer or a trailblazing inclusive employer, this is your last chance to give them the platform they deserve.
🗓️ Deadline: Friday, 25th April at 11:59 pm
Start Your Journey

Are you ready to develop your leadership skills through the lens of inclusion and safety? The SAFE Leader Open Course is designed for individuals and organisations who want to build more inclusive, psychologically safe workplaces, and registrations are still open for the upcoming cohort.
The course follows the SAFE framework—Share, Act, Feel, Empower—and is ideal for engineers, people managers, and DEI champions looking to make real change. You can join either the standard version, which includes four live modules, or the VIP option, which adds three 1:1 coaching sessions with me and ongoing support.
If you're leading teams or aspiring to, this course is a practical, values-driven step forward.
Benjamin Ralph on Inclusive Fire Safety
This week on The SAFE Leader Podcast, I speak with Benjamin Ralph, Director at Hollis and a leading figure in building safety and fire engineering. From a childhood curiosity about combustion to influencing national building safety policy, Ben shares how both passion and tragedy have shaped his journey.
We talk about the profound impact of events like the Grenfell Tower fire, how it triggered critical legislative change, and why inclusive fire safety, where everyone is considered in the design and evacuation process, must become the new norm.
This conversation goes deep into equitable design, policy reform, and leadership in crisis, and will resonate with anyone interested in the future of building safety and what it means to design with care.
Building US Connections
This week, I’ve been meeting with representatives from several of the UEF Founder Societies here in the United States, organisations that have shaped the very foundation of American engineering and continue to lead on innovation and ethics. It’s been a valuable opportunity to learn how the profession is organised in the US, and to explore ways that EqualEngineers might collaborate and contribute to ongoing work in this space.
The five founder societies of the United Engineering Foundation (UEF) are:
I’m hopeful that these early conversations will pave the way for meaningful partnerships to support inclusive leadership, safety culture, and engineering education in North America.

Please reach out and connect with me on LinkedIn if we are not already connected.
I love helping organisations where the angle I take with the work I do might help in someway have you make traction in your culture.
Feel free to get in touch here.
