Safety on the Edge Conference, ASME'S Workshop in Washington and STEM Belongs to Everyone
Welcome!
This week, I’m writing to you from sunny California, where I’m attending the Safety on the Edge conference. I’m honoured to be one of the speakers at this year’s event, joining a global audience of safety leaders, changemakers, and innovators to discuss the future of safety culture and leadership. I’m looking forward to sharing insights, making new connections, and learning from others who are equally passionate about this space.
More reflections and takeaways will be coming in next week’s newsletter, so make sure to keep an eye out for it!
Enjoy your end of the week.

Building Connections in Washington

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending ASME’s inaugural Women’s Leadership Workshop in Washington, DC. It was a fantastic event focused on mentorship, leadership development, and career growth for women in engineering. I had the chance to connect with new faces, and the energy in the room was inspiring.
Events like this remind me just how important it is to create spaces for dialogue, empowerment, and practical action. I'm excited to continue building on the conversations we started there and supporting initiatives that champion inclusive leadership across STEM.
STEM Belongs to Everyone
In this week’s episode of The SAFE Leader Podcast, I’m joined by Séverine Trouillet, CEO of STEM Learning—the UK’s largest provider of STEM education and careers support. Séverine brings a unique combination of personal insight and sector expertise, and her passion for widening participation in STEM is contagious.
We talk about her journey through a “squiggly career”, her drive to inspire underrepresented communities, and how we must change the narrative for girls and young people who feel STEM isn’t for them. She shares the importance of industry collaboration, targeted outreach, and why diversity isn’t just a corporate initiative—it’s essential for the future of innovation.
This episode is packed with clarity, purpose, and action, and is a must-listen for anyone working in education, STEM outreach, or organisational leadership.
